Friday, January 27th 2012 00:00

Commercial laundry group JLA opens new contact centre

Up to 500 jobs are to be created in the next five years, by a leading West Yorkshire-based business which is building a new £1 million pound contact centre.

Commercial laundry group JLA opened the building near Ripponden today. The ribbon was cut by Calder Valley MP, Craig Whittaker.

The company is also offering apprenticeship schemes, under which it will provide engineering training to a number of local young people.

Stephen Baxter, chief executive of JLA Group, said: "We are growing and investing, but it will be people that provide us with the competitive edge and today's announcement marks the start of what I hope will be a sustained recruitment campaign.”

The announcement comes as the most recent national jobs statistics show that unemployment has increased to a 17-year high and the number of people out of work went up by 118,000 between September and November.

Craig Whittaker MP, said: "I am extremely encouraged that this will not only create local career opportunities, but will also provide our young people with the opportunity of carrying out apprenticeships giving them skills and prospects for life."
